The Sport and Recreation team provides sporting and fitness services to students and staff, allowing them to maintain a healthy lifestyle, participate in sporting competition and socialise with friends while pursuing academic goals. Sports leagues, fitness training and recreation programmes provide opportunities for all students and staff to participate in sport and recreation whilst at University.
Sport and Recreation are going through an exciting new change where we will be transitioning into a new facility. This will become one of the largest multi-use facilities for sport and recreation in New Zealand. This new Recreation and Wellbeing Centre will be opening at the Universities City Campus, 2024.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are currently seeking a full-time, fixed term Sports Coordinator to play a key role in the wellbeing of our students.
Our Sports Coordinators oversee all elements related to the successful delivery of University sports tournaments, leagues, programmes, events and activities. This exciting new role will promote physical activity and overall wellbeing in the University community, supporting a vibrant and engaging sport and recreation environment.
Key accountabilities for this position include, but not limited to:
- Increase physical activity at the University by building on existing Sport and Recreation programmes, events and activities.
- Oversee all elements related to the successful delivery of programmes, including but not limited to, planning, marketing, registrations, venues, draws, officials, health and safety, prizes and communicating results.
- Increase physical activity through the implementation of new activities, events and programmes that support active well-being and are responsive to needs, informed by research and are unforgettable experiences for our tauira.
- Maintain and build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including student cohorts, to co-design and deliver events, programmes and activities that reflect the diverse University community.
- Advise the Sports Team Leader on various aspects of sport delivery including opportunities to develop, process improvements and annual planning.
- Project manage and deliver sports events, programmes and services as required.
This is a full-time (37.5 hours pw), fixed term (up to 28 months) opportunity.
The remuneration is $56,600 - $70,600 per annum, dependant on skills and experience.

About you | He kōrero mōu
Our ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor’s degree or a relevant tertiary qualification
- Relevant experience and knowledge of sport and recreation/active recreation programming
- Skilled knowledge of health promotion theory and practice, specifically in active recreation and physical wellbeing
- Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, understanding of, and competency in te ao māori, and the ability to incorporate this in relevant ways.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of the University environment and the key wellbeing issues for students.
- Experience in delivery of Health, Fitness or Sport based initiatives as a vehicle for wellbeing
