Technical Director Language [New Zealand]


 

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as Technical Director Language. This newly created role will oversee all aspects of GCSB's foreign language capabilities and practices, to ensure the GCSB is able to meet current and future foreign language mission needs, from both a human resources and technical capability perspective.

You'll deliver solutions to address foreign language-related capability and technology requirements, whilst providing overall quality assurance for our production of foreign language-derived intelligence. As GCSB's principal language expert, you'll provide specialist language-related expertise on a diverse range of topics and have the ability to communicate strategic and operational plans effectively to GCSB senior leaders.

Working across the Intelligence Directorate and wider GCSB, you'll act as an advocate and mentor for our operational linguists. As well as representing GCSB in language-related engagements, fostering strong relationships with language experts across the NZIC and Intelligence partner agencies. You will also play a lead role in enabling a significant increase in the value of GCSB's current and future language technology-based solutions.

To be successful you need:
Significant vocational experience using or working with foreign languages operationally.
Applied experience of Human Language Technology based solutions, preferably in an operational setting.
Leadership experience with proven practice in leading and influencing people to connect with our vision and mission.
Effective relationship management skills to engage across the organisation and with partners.

You need high energy and motivation as well as a collaborative, inclusive, and outcome focused approach. Utilise your concise communication style to cut a clear path through complexity.

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
