Summary:
Under general direction, incumbent(s) oversees the Social Services Program, including supervising departmental staff, developing activities and services, managing budget, evaluating program needs, and complying with entitlement requirements.


Essential Duties:

  • Develops and oversees implementation of the Social Services program, including school-based Social Workers.
  • Collaborates with district staff, families, and the community in developing and implementing services and/or programs.
  • Supervises Campus Social Workers, interns, and District department staff including determining workloads, monitoring work performance, hiring and professional development.
  • Develops and oversees the budget for the Social Services Department and works collaboratively with all District departments on procurement processes.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with school-based and District-level administrators to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts and general support for the decision making process.
  • Participate on District Crisis Team. Provide and coordinate social services when needed.
  • Provides oversite of the District’s homeless student program. Coordinates transportation alignment with Curriculum to improve consistency and access to education for homeless students.
  • Evaluate District Social Service programs and make recommendations for continued improvement.
  • Provide resource and support to school administrators and staff to meet students’ emotional, developmental and behavioral needs.
  • Supports District and schools to successfully provide interventions (social and behavioral) that meet the needs of all students.
  • Act as a liaison to community agencies in relation to counselors and social workers throughout the district.
  • Monitor and approve expenditures of funds allocated through the budget and other sources.
  • Develop and coordinate grants in department subject areas as needed.
  • Researches, recommends and supports schools with a systemic solution for meeting students’ emotional and mental health issues that impact learning; Manages District counseling and social work programs.
  • Attends state and national meetings and conferences to stay updated on entitlement requirements and current laws and regulations. Ensures the program is in compliance with grant requirements, federal laws, state statutes, and District policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mental Health, Social Work, Public Affairs, or related field;
  • Two years of work experience in School-Based Social Services, Program Development, Community Development and Partnerships, Federal Grant Management, or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

  • Master’s degree in Mental Health, Social Work, Public Affairs, or related field;
  • LCSW Licensed Clinical Social Worker;
  • Five years of work experience in School-Based Social Services, Program Development, Community Development and Partnerships, Federal Grant Management, or related experience.

  • Coordinating training for C.P.S., domestic violence, custody issues, trauma or crisis, etc;
  • Collecting and analyzing data;
  • Monitoring and evaluating programmatic success;
  • Coordinating appropriate delivery of mental health services to children and families;
  • Procuring appropriate training for social service providers to enhance practice;
  • Using computer software related programs;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
